Oral cancer is the most common cancer among Indian men.

What are oral cancers?

Cancers developing within the oral cavity. It includes lips, tongue, gums, cheeks, upper and lower jaw bones, roof and floor of the mouth .

Risk factors associated with oral cancers:

  • Non healing ulcer within the oral cavity for more than 2-3 weeks.
  • White or red patch inside the mouth.
  • Lump in the neck or mouth.
  • Difficulty in chewing, speaking, swallowing or moving the tongue.
  • Hoarseness of voice.
  • Unexplained bleeding from the mouth.

How do diagnose oral cancers?

  • Oral examination by a trained oncologist is the first step
  • A punch biopsy from the suspected area along with a CT or MRI will help in the diagnosis

Treatment for Oral Cancer:

  • Surgery i.e removal of the tumor with or without plastic surgery
  • LASER or Robotic surgery can be done in selected cases
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Chemotherapy, Targeted therapy & Immunotherapy
